Student Biography

Thaison Nguyen is currently in his 5th year of study in the Architectural Engineering Program at The Pennsylvania State University, primarily focusing on structural systems. He will graduate in 2013 with a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering degree. Upon graduation he will earn E.I.T. certification, thus allowing him attain the Professional Engineer (PE) and Structural Engineer (SE) certifications in the future. In addition, Thaison is OSHA 10 hour certified.

Currently, Thaison is involved in the student chapters of Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) and Structural Engineers Association (SEA). He has been part of the EERI design team since fall 2011 and has recently stepped up to one of the governing positions at EERI. Previously, Thaison had participated in the student chapters of the U.S. Green Building Council and the Student Society of Architectural Engineers (SSAE).

During the previous summer Thaison has held a summer job Hedrick Brothers Construction. He had the opportunity to engage in estimating; which covers comparing and selecting bids, answering and sending RFIs, as wells as reviewing the drawing sets and specifications for coordination conflicts. Also Thaison has put the OSHA 10 hour certification to use, by assisting the company’s safety inspector.

For the future, Thaison intends to pursue the Master of Science (M.S.) and doctorate degrees. He intends to focus on building facades for his M.S. His end destination is to design building facades and lateral structural systems for facilities over 10 stories.
